As with other new technologies that are coming out quickly, like artificial intelligence and augmented reality, blockchain technology in education has brought about big changes and solutions from many different fields that go beyond its original focus on finance and cryptocurrencies.
In the traditional educational model, there was a vague method for getting credentials, academic records, and transcripts verified. This made it hard for the model to grow and expand. Software that is based on the blockchain could easily fix these problems.
Blockchain’s main benefits are decentralized storage, information that can’t be changed once it’s been saved, being able to track information, and being open and honest. Blockchain technology is making education better, which could open up chances for people from all over the world.
The features are new because they can be used in a lot of different ways in the field of education. A lot of public schools are now thinking about putting in place tools that are built on blockchain. If you work with schools, knowing about this change will help you understand how to make the system better and come up with ways to do it.
The following examples will help you understand how Bitcoin can be used in education better.

How bitcoin can be used in education
With blockchains, it’s possible to make unique digital assets that prove the validity of credentials and licenses. Besides just verifying credentials, blockchain can be used for other things in the education and job fields. Let’s look at these real-world examples of use:
1. Keeping records
Blockchain technology could bring about long-overdue changes to the way records are kept, which has been mostly inaccurate in the past.
Blockchain can instantly verify and store a wide range of educational documents, such as diplomas, certificates, and credentials, that need validators at the moment. Once the conditions set by the people who created them are met, smart contracts powered by blockchain can do all the work and approve papers instantly.
It lets students and learners quickly get to their records and share them safely with potential jobs. It also makes things easier for companies because they don’t have to do annoying background checks to make sure the applicant is who they say they are. The good thing about it is that it sticks together even when things go wrong outside.
The information shown in the above image is how information is stored and shared.
2. Electronic records
Along with how easy it is to check, E-transcripts have a lot of great uses. Transcripts are the most time- and labor-intensive job for academic institutions around the world.
Every entry in a transcript has to be checked by hand to make sure it is right. From high school to college, it needs to be looked at case by case and a pile of paper records. Many schools still send and receive papers the old-fashioned way, like through the mail, even in 2022.
Using distributed ledger technology and related solutions could easily speed up these processes. This would also help lower the number of fake claims for unearned college points.
Blockchains can help schools a lot by making it possible to store private information like a student’s grades in a way that can’t be changed. It helps educational institutions and also makes it easier for recruiters and staffing companies to do their checks. A lot of time and money are also saved as a result.
3. Making the organization less centralized
Blockchain has a huge amount of promise, so it can change the way businesses work and be more than just a tool for universities.
The platform makes online classes possible by using smart contracts to support and automatically handle agreements and payments between students and teachers. Because of this, students can get reliable service and low fees.
On the other hand, automation has freed teachers from some administrative tasks. With the help of blockchain cryptography, they can protect student and staff data from hackers and cut down on administrative costs by getting rid of middlemen.
4. Paying for school
Financial budgeting is very important in schools, and blockchain technology can be used in ways that have never been seen before. Blockchain technology can be used to keep track of teacher pay and student funds. This makes the process of funding projects and grants open and fair.
5. Keeping your work safe
Plagiarism is a very big problem in the academic world. Someone else’s work can be lost if a study paper is copied or stolen. If someone steals your work, you might get bad grades. Solutions that are based on blockchain can be used to control the sharing of copyrighted material online.
The main goal of the technology is to keep the data that has been stored in a chain safe. This data is protected by cutting-edge encryption, so it can’t be changed by hand after it has been s aved.
Students can now safely access tools that are meant to help them learn. The owner can easily control who can see the material because the chain also keeps track of how it is used. It is possible to keep track of online usage, and it’s easy to show control.
Problems with putting blockchain technology to use in education
Even though blockchain has many perks, it is not easy to use. Teachers and students aren’t afraid to use new, cutting-edge technology. This may be because of the problems that come up when it’s first put into use, such as security and cost issues. Let’s take a look at these problems:
Problems with safety
Blockchain is thought to be one of the safest tools. Despite that, it is not immune. Finance and education are two very different fields. The protection measures should also be different for each field. Because blockchain currency is so flexible and easy to hack, it might not meet the security needs of edtech.
The school records and transcripts of the student are private and should be kept in a way that follows state and federal data protection rules. Because of this, institutions need to be extra careful with the data they store and how they handle it. For better security, more security measures should be put in place, such as giving rights and using stronger data encryption.
Concerns about scalability
More and more information about students and certifications is being collected. With ever-growing needs, it’s hard for educational organizations to make blockchain work better. It makes sense that as the amount of data grows, more blocks are added, which makes activities on the blockchain platform take longer. The peer-to-peer verification method also adds time to the transaction process.
Low rate of adoption
At the moment, blockchain is only useful for a small group of students, mostly graduates who want to store their accomplishments and awards. Companies that want to use this feature of blockchain in education to make hiring easier will need to start using blockchain technology. For the same reason, businesses will have to make extra investments that may not be possible or even helpful for some. People are afraid that the extra costs will keep them from adopting.
Cost
Adopting blockchain will save money in the long run on routine tasks. The size, though, on which this technology needs to be accepted and used is huge. This will cost a lot of money. Some institutions may find it hard to spend a lot of money, and others may also find it hard to adopt blockchain because it will require major changes to the infrastructure that is already in place. Overall, the digital transformation of the education industry toward blockchain usage will need huge investments at first, which is one reason why schools might not use blockchain technology.
